長岡 国人 Kunito NAGAOKA MYSTIFIKATION

長岡国人（1940〜）は、長野県佐久市出身の版画家／画家です。故郷の浅間山をモチーフにした作品で知られ、銅版画や拓本、和紙を用いた作品まで幅広く制作を続けています。

1940年に長野県に生まれた長岡は、1963年に多摩美術大学デザイン科を卒業します。東京でグラフィックデザイナーとして3年間働いたのち、1966年西ベルリン（旧西ドイツ）へ移住し、ベルリン国立アカデミー、ベルリン国立芸術大学で版画と絵画を学びました。1976年にマイスターの資格を取得し、1977年のウィーン国際版画ビエンナーレでグランプリを受賞するなど、欧州の国際版画展で評価を重ねます。『ISEKI』（遺跡）シリーズをはじめ、山梨県立美術館所蔵の『浅間プロジェクト No.2』シリーズや大分県立美術館所蔵の『ISEKI/PYXXXV』（1984年）など、浅間山と遺跡を手がかりにした銅版画を多く残しています。

1991年に帰国し、兵庫県朝来市にアトリエを構えます。手漉き和紙や古和紙を用いた「大地の脱皮」「石の脱皮」シリーズを手がけ、2001年からはドイツ、チェコ、アルメニアなどで墓碑などを拓本する「拓本プロジェクト」を実施しています。京都精華大学では20年間にわたり教鞭を執りました。京都国立近代美術館など国内外の美術館に作品が収蔵されています。2019年から2021年にかけて、回顧展「脱皮する大地・浅間山 長岡國人展 WORKS 1969-2019」が佐久市立近代美術館などで開催され、50年間の制作が紹介されました。

Kunito NAGAOKA (1940–) is a printmaker and painter from Saku, Nagano Prefecture. He is known for works that take Mount Asama, his hometown volcano, as a motif, and continues to work across a wide range of media, from copperplate prints and rubbings to works on washi paper.

Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1940, Nagaoka graduated from the Department of Design at Tama Art University in 1963. After working for three years as a graphic designer in Tokyo, he moved in 1966 to West Berlin (then West Germany) and studied printmaking and painting at the Berlin Academy and the Berlin University of the Arts. He obtained the Meister qualification in 1976 and went on to receive recognition at international print exhibitions in Europe, including the Grand Prix at the Vienna International Print Biennale in 1977. Beginning with the ISEKI (ruins) series, he left many copperplate prints that take Mount Asama and archaeological remains as points of departure, including the Asama Project No. 2 series in the collection of the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Art and ISEKI/PYXXXV (1984) in the collection of the Oita Prefectural Art Museum.

After returning to Japan in 1991, he established a studio in Asago, Hyogo Prefecture. He produced the “Shedding of the Earth” and “Shedding of Stone” series using handmade and antique washi, and from 2001 he has carried out the “Rubbing Project,” making rubbings of gravestones and related surfaces in Germany, the Czech Republic, Armenia, and elsewhere. He taught at Kyoto Seika University for twenty years. His works are held by museums in Japan and abroad, including the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. From 2019 to 2021, the retrospective “ASAMA KUNITO NAGAOKA/WORKS 1969-2019” was held at venues including the Saku Municipal Museum of Modern Art, presenting fifty years of his work.
