津高 和一 Waichi TSUTAKA 無題

津高和一は、詩人、画家として活躍した作家です。具象画から離れて以降に生まれた、詩情と透明感にあふれる抽象絵画で知られています。

1911年、大阪市に生まれた津高は、3歳頃に西宮市に移り住みます。1927年より詩作に励み、個人雑誌「貌」を創刊するとともに、戦前は「神戸詩人」、戦後は「火の鳥」及び「天秤」の同人として作品を発表しました。絵画に興味を持ち始めたのは戦中、1938年のことでした。中之島洋画研究所では洋画を学びますが、行動美術協会に加入した1950年代前半頃には、抽象画に主軸を移します。現代美術懇談会（ゲンビ）に参加したほか、1955年には画家の吉原治良や須田剋太、陶芸家の八木一夫とともに国際アートクラブ関西支部を設立するなど、関西の美術界を牽引する前衛作家たちとジャンルの枠を超えて交流を重ねました。1957年にはサンパウロ・ビエンナーレ、1960年にはグッゲンハイム国際美術賞展に出品するなど、その活躍は国内にとどまりませんでした。1968年からは大阪芸術大学の教授として後進の育成にも尽力し、文化賞、芸術賞を受賞します。そんな津高が逝去したのは1995年。阪神淡路大震災に際し、自宅にて夫人とともに落命しました。

津高の叙情的な作品群は、淡く透きとおった色彩と、ぼかしやにじみ、かすみといった繊細な筆触によって生み出されています。鑑賞者はその静かな画面の中に、詩人でもあった津高の豊かな内面世界を見出すことができるでしょう。

TSUTAKA Waichi was a poet and painter, known for his abstract paintings full of poetic sentiment and a sense of transparency.

Born in Osaka in 1911, Tsutaka moved to Nishinomiya City when he was three and began writing poetry in 1927 to publish the first issue of his magazine, “Face.” Before the war, Tsutaka was a member of “Kobe Shijin” (Kobe Poets), and after the war, he was a member of “Hinotori” (Firebird) and “Tenbin” (Balance). It was during the war, in 1938, that Tsutaka became interested in painting. Tsutaka studied Western-style painting at the Nakanoshima Western Painting Institute but shifted his focus to abstract painting in the early 1950s when he joined the Action Art Association.

In 1955, Tsutaka established the Kansai branch of the International Art Club with artists Jiro Yoshihara and Kokuta Suda and ceramist Kazuo Yagi. Tsutaka continued to interact with leading avant-garde artists in the art world of the Kansai region, transcending genre boundaries.

His activities were not limited to the domestic market, as he exhibited at the Sao Paulo Biennial in 1957 and the Guggenheim International Art Award Exhibition in 1960.

In 1968, Tsutaka became a professor at the Osaka University of Arts, where he devoted himself to teaching young artists and received the Cultural Award and the Arts Prize.

Tsutaka and his wife passed away during the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995.

Tsutaka created lyrical paintings with light, transparent colors and delicate brushstrokes such as blurring, smudging, and haze. Viewers will find the rich inner world of the poet Tsutaka in the serenity of his works.
